On 29th October 2019, Professor David Hulme was welcomed by Peking University to present FutureDAMS’ review of dams and development. David’s lecture ‘Building better dams: the past, present and future of dams’ reviewed what is known about dam-building in developing countries and future prospects, in the light of dams in China and Chinese companies’ dam building overseas.

The lecture was well received and sparked interesting discussion with the audience of professors, PhDs and Masters students from the School of Environment and Engineering, who were particularly keen to discuss ‘can dams be regarded as sustainable energy or do they have a major carbon footprint?’.
